This is not a positive update so I am just going to speed through it as it’s not great.
After Zila’s 3rd unsuccessful attempt, we were unsure of what to do. So we spoke to Dr. Kumar who recommended continuing with Zila for a 4th attempt. Having done a bit of research, this was a little unusual as most surrogates have three attempts before it is viewed as being incompatible. To hedge our bet, the doctor agreed to fertilize additional eggs and be on the lookout for a new surrogate if anything happened.
We attempted to fertilize 4 eggs and all of them were unsuccessful. We then attempted to fertilize 8 eggs and after testing, 2 euploids came back but were female. So if you are keeping score— we now have 3 healthy female embryos and 1 healthy male embryo.
While this was going on, Zila was gearing up for attempt number. She was amazing. Anything the doctor asked of her she was willing to do. Unfortunately, on the day of her final check-in, it was determined that she was not able to attempt the transfer. The fourth attempt was canceled the day before it was to take place. Essentially, stopping before we even got started.
The doctor recommended that we part ways with Zila and attempt a new surrogate. We are forever grateful for working with Zila. She was so supportive, funny, and just overall the sweetest person. While this arrangement did not work out for us, I do hope that she is able to find a new family and attempt for them as I know that is what she wants. Thank you, Zila. You attempted to bring life to our family and that is something we will never forget. Truthfully, we are super bummed about this. We liked Zila a lot and really wanted to make this work.
Now — we officially need to find a new surrogate.
Surrogate 2- Leanna. Mother of three ready to go. We send her our letter, photos, and want to schedule a time to meet with her.
After receiving our documents, we are told she no longer wants to work with same-sex couples.
Surrogate 3- Ashlyn. Mother of a super cute 3-year-old. We send her our letter, and photos, and want to schedule a time to meet with her.
After receiving our documents, we are told she wants to meet. We meet her and fell in love. She was hilarious. She was a wealth of knowledge and knew exactly what she wanted too. We wanted to work with her and she wanted to work with us. The one thing with Ashlyn was that she had not completed all of her tests. Lo and behold —her test came back negative in one area and she was ineligible to move forward.
We are working on finding a new surrogate now that hopefully will be compatible.
