Do we have a new surrogate? Where is the surrogate? Can we schedule a meeting to figure out what we can do to get a surrogate? Hey…how’s that surrogate hunting going? Pss….you got any surrogates…we can keep it on the down-low?
And the responses we got were always — NO. We are working on it. When we have something we will give it to you.
We get that, but that doesn’t produce a baby. In our head: “the squeaky wheel gets the grease.” Any annoying analogy you can think of— insert here. I feel bad writing this, but it was almost a daily…what’s new? Nothing. What about now? Nothing.
I have to give it to the clinic. They were always nice, but understandably I am sure they wanted to scream leave us alone.
Finally, we got the message that they have a new surrogate for us. It kind of came out of nowhere as we were being told that they were working on it. Evidently, a family did not want to move forward with SB even though she was 100% healthy and ready to begin. We swooped in and said YES, YES, YES!
We told the agency, let’s meet today. If not today, how about tomorrow? We can meet at 12pm, 1pm, 2pm, 3pm, 4pm, etc. Eventually, the meeting was set and we were on to meet our new surrogate. Progress! This process is filled with so many lows that any little progress in the right direction feels like you have climbed a mountain.
SB was lovely. She was warm, funny, and knew what she wanted. There was a great vibe between the two of us as we shared our stories and I knew instantly I wanted to work with her. I looked at Grant and said, “I am good? Are you good? Yep.” We said right then and there that we wanted to work with SB.
Evidently, most people sit and stew. Play hard to get. Then eventually come around and say, “Yes.” Not us. We have no poker face. We want you. And to our surprise, SB immediately said, “Yes" to us. She felt the same way and was ready to go.
Fast forward and legal starts. We go back and forth and the lawyers do their lawyerly things. Then we wait, and wait, and wait more…it was a tad painful. Is she going to sign? Is she not? Eventually, we are told that she has signed the contract and we have legal clearance to begin.
As I write this— SB is gearing up for her first attempt. Hopefully, one and done. Keep your fingers crossed that 5th time is the charm. We are just a ball of energy right now hoping that the change in surrogate will produce a positive result. It’s nerve-racking as there is literally nothing we can do now. But, we have faith that everything will work the way it is supposed to.
The blog post is going to end as a cliffhanger. Will the next post be about us being pregnant or not? We should know more in March.
